Shout for a safer SA

If there are dreams about a beautiful South Africa, there are also roads that lead to their goal. Two of these roads could be named Goodness and Forgiveness. Nelson Mandela, Nobel Prize Winner, freedom fighter, peacemaker and former President of South Africa.

South Africa…deemed one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Its unique wildlife, terrain and warmth have attracted tourists, settlers and those seeking refuge to find solace within its borders. Over the years however, this incredible country has been blighted by crime and violence all of which has been needlessly borne out of greed and anger. SHOUT is a vehicle that is actively mobilising a peace revolution and giving South Africans a voice to stand up, to shout and to say enough.

    RadioX

Has anybody checked out this RadioX offering?

I came across it via a Facebook link from one of my mates. The site needs a bit of work and the music wouldn’t be my choice but I think its quite nifty technology none the less.

    The site description says:

Radio X was born on the 1st of July 2004, broadcasting Electronic Dance Music on 97 Fm in the Northern Suburbs of Gauteng until we were shut down 2 years later. Join us as we celebrate what was true, free, forward thinking radio in S.A.

We have brought up internet radio before on this blog and had a couple of readers make some suggestions but it is good to see initiatives like this getting some exposure in SA.

    Keep it up guys.

PS If anybody else has some suggestions for SA Internet Radio offerings then please post them below in the comments section.

    Happy Birthday Chuck Norris!

I am absolutely loving Sasha Martinengo’s show on 5FM this morning with the Chuck Norris jokes. There have been some absolute pearlers there. I’m going to try and update during the day but feel free to post some in the comments section below:

    Happy 70th birthday Chuck!

    Bundublog.com wants your podcasts

Fancy yourself as a podcaster? Think you can entertain a community? Want some airtime for your new band? Then Bundublog.com wants to talk to you.

We have been spending quite a lot of time sorting out some of the tech issues behind Bundublog and our focus is now shifting to making the site a destination for African blog traffic. To do that we need kick ass community driven content.

The blogger numbers are up and we’re shifting our focus to podcasting content. We’re throwing it out to the blogosphere that we are looking for some cool podcasting shows to syndicate and promote. Apart from an established and growing community and audience for the content, we’ve also got some budget to promote the podcasts and help the presenters grow their audience.

If the podcast is really good we’re even prepared to pay for it… we don’t pay well but its a start!

Content wise, tech podcasts are a dime a dozen and don’t have a hell of a lot of appeal for us. Thing we would be interested in include:

Education Science Sports Book and video game reviews Entrepreneurship Finance (provided it is not dry and boring) Contributions from citizen journalists in other African countries including Zimbabwe, Botswana and Nigeria (English only please) African politics SA entertainment including comedy skits Music from new African bands looking for exposure We’re also quite happy to entertain some content that might be considered a bit more “risque” so try us out and we’ll see what we can put together.

If you’re interested in putting together a podcast or looking to grow your audience using Bundublog.com then please contact Marc Ashton on 082-561-1585 or e-mail marc@rival.co.za

    Sponsor opportunities
Podcasting and internet radio are still in their infancy in Africa (including South Africa), but it is likely to become an increasingly powerful space for sponsors and advertisers.

We believe there might be opportunities for companies operating in the following industries to gain exposure through the Bundublog community:

Branding and social media Music Entertainment Bandwidth and hosting Entertainment If you would like to discuss some potential opportunities please give me a shout on the contact details above. For context purposes the packages start at R1850 excl. VAT per month so are affordable for many small businesses.

Look forward to some excellent content from the community.

    Jacaranda FM

I don’t know if anybody has noticed recently but when you flick to Jacaranda FM the artist name and song title now scrolls across the display in your car radio?

I think it is quite a nifty addition and I’d assume it would have to do with the way the song details are being sent to the Jacaranda website or through the various streaming channels? Anybody know?

Is this string limited in length though because it seems to display as JACRANDA rather than JACARANDA….

    Any ideas?

    You’re so vain

I was under the impression that it had been decided that Carly Simons song “You’re so vain” was about Warren Beatty, but apparently I am wrong.

Big news on CNN apart from from an earthquake which has hit Chile is that Carly dropped a line into another song which gives the clue that it is a guy by the name of “David”  possibly a reference to David Geffen of her music record.

I was surprised to read that the song is now 38 years old and the secret has been kept for so long… one of those quirky pieces of music which sems to keep people guessing!

    Radio Twits

Thought it would be a little bit of fun to see which of the SA radio DJ’s / personalities had the biggest following on Twitter.

While a Twitter following is not indicative of real popularity and listenership, it is quite obvious which stations have backed the technology / social media initiatives.

I’ve picked the obvious ones but if you have any other people to add to the list then please feel free to post them in the comments section:

    The Parlotones over-commercial?

I picked up this really good post by Slick Tiger about the Parlotones and while I don’t totally agree with all the comments which were made, I do think that it raises a couple of points about bands being over-commercialised.

(As an aside on that post – read the full thing before commenting). I was ready to cuss and call the guy names by about the fourth paragraph but I can see he has gone to quite a lot of effort and he argues his point quite well.

One of the things which he raises (and I happen to agree with) is this whole Parlotones / KFC advertising commercial. It actually irritates the hell out of me when it comes up these days. When the ads first started they were tolerable but the campaign seems to have gone on for too long now.

The point that the blogger raises about the bands being exploited and over-commercialised is a fair one. They seem to have their brand attached to everything and while they are a fantastic brand and band, they’re going to lose their appeal if they are going to be attached to every possible product launch, ad campaign etc.

Anyway I thought it made for good reading and whether you agree or disagree with him, he raised some good points in the campaign.

    No Coke Fest 2010?

There seems to be some uncertainty about their not being a Coke Fest 2010 on the cards. I can’t find any official announcement that the event has been cancelled for the year, but a couple of local blogs have said that with Cokes Football World Cup commitments they are focusing their attention elsewhere this year?

Obviously the world cup is a premium event and takes a lot of co-ordinating but Coke Fest has become something of a regular in the diary of many music fans….
