The Parlotones over-commercial?

I picked up this really good post by Slick Tiger about the Parlotones and while I don’t totally agree with all the comments which were made, I do think that it raises a couple of points about bands being over-commercialised.

(As an aside on that post – read the full thing before commenting). I was ready to cuss and call the guy names by about the fourth paragraph but I can see he has gone to quite a lot of effort and he argues his point quite well.

One of the things which he raises (and I happen to agree with) is this whole Parlotones / KFC advertising commercial. It actually irritates the hell out of me when it comes up these days. When the ads first started they were tolerable but the campaign seems to have gone on for too long now.

The point that the blogger raises about the bands being exploited and over-commercialised is a fair one. They seem to have their brand attached to everything and while they are a fantastic brand and band, they’re going to lose their appeal if they are going to be attached to every possible product launch, ad campaign etc.

Anyway I thought it made for good reading and whether you agree or disagree with him, he raised some good points in the campaign.
