In 2008 Vernon Koekemoer leapt to prominence as “South Africa’s own Chuck Norris” getting coverage in almost every form of media going.

This year it would appear that a new social craze is developing in the form of “romantic Afrikaans rap star” Jack Parow.

I first was alerted to Parow after I saw a couple of my friends on Facebook joining his group which has now swelled to in excess of 10000 members. I – without shame – admit that I have not bought into this marketing spiel but it is good to see a campaign like this getting some legs and running.

A number of blogs and internet sites including Watkykjy.co.za have had interviews with him and his profile is definately on the up. His style he describes as  “Blerrie Gevaarlike Afrikaans Rap”.

Sometimes it amazes me what you can do with social media.
