Talk Radio 702
In the last 7 years I don’t think I have intentionally listened to 702. Working in a different office environment for the last 6 weeks there is a guy here who puts it on while he works.
At first I thought it was going to annoy me a bit but after a half hour adjustment or so I was quite into it. John Robbie is still his usual combative self, Chris Gibbons still gives his dry, factual commentary and Jenny Cryws-Williams is still ticking along. The Redi Direko show is one I believe is a real stand out for them at the moment – moves along at a fast, enjoyable pace.
They still get the usual nutcases like that Zimbabwean ambassador or communications minister and they still run with some topics that make your skin crawl – vaginal cosmetic / plastic surgery the most recent. Shiver…
It is amazing how little the shows and personalities have changed over the last decade. I’ll be honest, I thought they were going to simply disappear as time went by but they’re still around. Maybe 702 have just hit onto a formula that is unspectacular but does the trick?
